Negroponte's Predictions Prognosis
Design Goals
Project Overview
- Negroponte’s Predictions is an online, interactive simulation for WDIM students to learn about Nicholas Negroponte’s theories about soft architecture machines that they can use in their own design work.
- The project is stylistically dark and mysterious.
Audience(age, attention, details)
- Primary Audience
- Web Design and Interactive Media Major students
- Ages 18-30
- Interested in the learning about the history of design
- Want to apply skills and theories to their own design
- Need an interesting way to learn that disguises the educational elements
- Secondary Audience
- Other design major students (i.e. game design, animation)
- Interested in theories and skills that can be used in their own projects
Amount of reading
- The project relies heavily on text being read because that is how the user gets the information.
- The text are sectioned into small parts to the user does not feel overwhelmed with information.
Information Message
- The information is on Nicholas Negroponte’s theories on Spatial Data, Communication, Participation in Design, and Design Amplifiers. The message of the project is to give this information to the user and then the user can “predict” how it should be applied by choosing an answer for the questions given.
Current Issues
- Content feels tightly confined. Needs to feel more open. More whitespace.
- Open tracking on body text.
- Use a different way to call out the headlines (not just bold).
- Differentiate the text in the “coversation.”
- Style one way for text said to the user.
- Style differently for text said BY the user.
- Question page needs better formatting.
- Certain formatting for instructions throughout project.
- Use consistent font family.
- Ending doesn’t feel like it is the end.
- Possibly change position of text bubble.
- Differentiate type between regular story and ending.
