Yarnloop Prognosis
Design Goals
Project Overview
- Yarnloop is an ecommerce site for young, crochet lovers to buy customizable crochet products. The products include bags, purses, and hats just to name a few. The design of the site is very earthy and bohemian but still professional and trustworthy.
Audience(age, attention, details)
- Yarnloop’s primary audience is young females between the ages of 16-30, though there are a number of older women who may be interested in the products as well.
- The secondary audience is young people both male and female. It is necessary to include males as a part of the audience because there are products that will be available for men as well (i.e. beanies, pouches).
Amount of reading
- The focus should be on images of products available. The product descriptions are not lengthy, but give just enough information to explain the product dimensions, colors, and possible customizations.
- The biggest amount of text is in the customer service section of the site. This is where most of the customer-driven questions will be answered. The text must be clear and easy to navigate through to find a specific “policy.”
Information Message
- Yarnloop’s message/tagline is “crochet products to fit your style.” The message conveys the products are crocheted. The “fit your style” portion conveys that customizable element of the products.
Current Issues
- Tagline—horrible font, plain and simple. Placement might need to change as well.
- Padding issues, especially for the breadcrumb, is too small on some pages. This is mostly due to not all of the pages having their top and bottom curved edges.
- Navigation—needs to be more prominent and set differently than headings.
- Type hierarchy—there is a decent amount of hierarchy but it needs to be more differentiation between some elements.
- Like stated earlier the navigation and the headings are too similar.
- Community poll heading is different than the rest.
- Information for product listings need to be formatted for better readability.
- Buttons needs a different treatment for text and color should follow color scheme.
- Heading text color needs more contrast from the background.
- All text needs to match the color scheme.
- Customer Service portion need space between the sections of content as well as some leading issues for better readability.
- Format contact form.
- Overall look of text needs to help convey Yarnloop’s message and style.
- Punctuation, spelling, and grammar mistakes.
